Perfect Pairings: Anthea’s Picks for Drinks and Music

There’s no denying we love music, art, or pairing our cookies with drinks. This is our ongoing blog series, where each individual staff member from Om Nom Nom Cookies discusses pairing a cookie with music, drinks, places, things, people, etc. If it feels right while enjoying our cookie, then it’s on the page. Feel free to comment with your own suggestions on what you’d pair with our delicious vegan cookies.

For this particular post, Head Cookie Anthea Ponsetti kicks off the series with her favorite drink and music pairings.

Orange-Zested Chocolate Chip
Drink: Chateau La Grave, Sainte-Croix-du-Mont
Music: Boom Bip ft. Nina Nastasia – the Matter (of our discussion)

A sweet white wine goes well with the Orange-Zested Chocolate Chip. When the wine is consumed young, it brings a fresh citrus taste to the palate, which helps really bring out the orange taste in our cookie. Both Andrew and I agree that Nina Nastasia is fantastic, and Boom Bip brings a little bit of fun to this summertime cookie.

Chocolate Chip
Drink: Castello di Ama Vin Santo del Chianti Classico
Music: Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps

This dry, red Chianti will go really well with the chocolate. Karen-O’s voice in this song sounds very nostalgic, very longing. I think the two pair really well together. Both are classics!

Chocolate Snickerdoodle
Drink: Panther Coffee Espresso
Music: Deerhunter – Agoraphobia

This one’s easy: the Chocolate Snickerdoodle tastes best with coffee. By now, it’s a fact. It tastes great savored separately or even dipped into the coffee. A nice, rich espresso would be a great coffee to enjoy the Snickerdoodle when consumed separately. I don’ think I’d dip this one like I would with their other roasts, but it’s a delicious pairing nonetheless. As for the music, Deerhunter is a band creating some really great sounds right now. This is my favorite.

Spicy Mexican Snickerdoodle
Drink: Grahams ‘Six Grapes” Port
Music: The Kills – Cheap and Cheerful

This one’s a tough cookie to pair. However, if I had to choose, I’d say go for a fortified wine. The sweetness will help open up the flavor from the spice while keeping it pleasant on the palate. The Kills are a spicy, sassy rock and roll band. This is the song I’d rock out to.

Cranberry Walnut Oatmeal
Drink: Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar Beer
Music: Blonde Redhead – Spain

This is a great, sweet cookie that tastes best with beer. No wine here. The nuttiness of this particular beer would taste amazing with the oatmeal. Blonde Redhead was amazing live, and this song is a great cut from their latest album.

Ultimate Peanut Butter
Drink: Almond Milk
Music: Mazzy Star – Blue Light

The peanut butter cookie is super rich and needs something pleasant to wash it down. I’d recommend pairing it with some vanilla almond milk, which is way better than regular milk. Mazzy Star provides the hazy, cool soundtrack.
